Bailey Tippen’s Hollywood Rise: From ‘Beauty in Black’ to ‘Route 187’

Bailey Tippen Opens Up About ‘Beauty in Black’ Season 3, ‘Route 187’ and Her Hollywood Journey

Bailey Tippen is stepping into an exciting phase of her acting career. With Netflix’s “Beauty in Black” continuing to put her in front of a global audience and the upcoming drama “Route 187” adding another major project to her résumé, the actress is steadily expanding her place in Hollywood.

Tippen, who plays Sylvie in “Beauty in Black,” recently reflected on how the character has changed, what she has learned from working with Tyler Perry, and why she wants her future career to include very different kinds of roles.

Bailey Tippen Started Acting at a Young Age

Tippen’s interest in acting began during childhood. She started taking acting classes when she was around five years old and began working professionally a couple of years later.

Those early years helped her learn how to perform in front of people, study scripts and understand the emotions and motivations behind a character.

Her original inspiration was much simpler: she loved watching the Disney Channel.

Shows such as “Hannah Montana” helped spark her dream of becoming an actress and appearing on television herself.

Sylvie Faces a More Intense Journey in ‘Beauty in Black’

Tippen’s role as Sylvie has become increasingly emotional as the Netflix series has progressed.

After the difficult events surrounding the character in Season 2, Sylvie enters the next chapter questioning more of the people and circumstances around her.

For Tippen, one of the biggest challenges is putting herself back into the mindset of a teenager.

Teenage emotions can feel enormous in the moment, and portraying that convincingly requires her to reconnect with how situations felt when she was younger.

That emotional perspective has helped her bring more depth to Sylvie as the character deals with increasingly difficult realities.

How Sylvie Has Changed

When audiences were first introduced to Sylvie, she was a young woman with hopes of escaping a difficult home environment.

As the story developed, however, her outlook began changing.

The character gradually moved from viewing life through a more innocent perspective toward recognizing some of the uncomfortable realities surrounding her.

Tippen has enjoyed exploring that transformation and watching viewers become emotionally invested in Sylvie’s story.

The worldwide response to “Beauty in Black” has also been especially meaningful for the actress, who has seen conversations about the show spread among viewers in different countries.

Bailey Tippen on Working With Tyler Perry

Another major part of Tippen’s experience on the series has been working with Tyler Perry.

Perry handles numerous responsibilities across his productions, including writing, directing, producing and overseeing the overall creative direction.

Tippen has been particularly inspired by his ability to understand both the production side of television and the perspective of an actor.

For her, watching Perry work has reinforced the idea that creative people do not necessarily have to limit themselves to just one area of the entertainment industry.

It has encouraged her to think beyond acting and remain open to other creative opportunities in the future.

‘Route 187’ Shows a Different Side of Bailey Tippen

Tippen is also preparing for another project, “Route 187,” which moves her into very different territory.

The crime drama deals with serious subjects involving murders and the disappearances of Black women.

Tippen believes stories dealing with issues like these can help keep important conversations in the public eye, especially when the fictional situations reflect concerns that also exist in real communities.

The project also gives her another opportunity to demonstrate her range outside the character audiences know from “Beauty in Black.”

She Wants to Keep Playing Different Characters

Rather than becoming associated with only one type of role, Tippen hopes to continue exploring characters with very different personalities and experiences.

That variety is part of what attracts her to acting.

Connecting with different characters allows her to explore perspectives that may be completely different from her own while continuing to grow as a performer.

And while she already has additional work developing behind the scenes, she is not revealing those projects just yet.

Away from acting, Tippen also has a more adventurous personal goal on her list: skydiving.

With “Beauty in Black,” “Route 187” and additional projects ahead, Bailey Tippen appears ready for the next stage of a career that began when she was still a child.
